Nick Davis You Are A Fuckwit!!!
Now I'm not normally one to rip players like this, but I really think Nick Davis needs to have his head read after his outburst yesterday after being informed that he would be facing the Wagga Tigers this weekend in Wagga and not the West Coast in Perth.
Now I can understand his point that his form over the past few weeks hasn't been as bad as certain other player in the team (hello Ryan O'Keefe if your reading this), but if the coaching staff make a decision to drop you from the senior side based upon not only your form, BUT your fitness then you should cop the decision on the chin and go back to the ACTAFL for the required period and prove yourself (didn't take a hack like Ben Mathews long now did it?).
What you certainly don't do however is do what poor old Nick has done and run to the newspapers and have a crying fit to anybody who'll listen because not only will it make you un-popular with your teammates (when rumors already have you un-popular with most of them), but make your battle back to the seniors that much harder because the coaches will be that much more pissed off. Also you leave the clubs image in tatters at a time when it least needs it. So thats why I was pissed off to read today's paper and find little Nicky crying about being blamed for the lose against Adelaide.
"So it was a major surprise that I wasn't playing against West Coast. Someone had to cop the blame for the Adelaide loss and I guess it was me. Roosy was blaming the players after the match and he's obviously singled me out."
Boo, fucking hoo I say.
Roos gave the reason that Nick was unfit and that with the Swans playing at Subiaco it would be better to leave him out to gain fitness in the twos while giving the quick and much fitter Simon Phillips a chance to prove himself on the bigger ground - Que another sook from Nicky boy;
"The dimensions of Subiaco were one, but the last time I played in Perth in the finals I kicked three goals and played pretty well."
So this gets all over the morning papers and what do you expect happens when Roos and the rest of the team finds out about it back in Perth?? Yep they aren't best pleased and when questioned about the comments Roosy let fly on Nick.
"I think Nick and I will have a pretty good discussion next week," Roos said.
"He's reasonably fortunate I am standing here in WA as we speak. It is very un-Sydney like and it is certainly something that we pride ourselves on, having a team that plays for each other and thinks about the team first. I haven't spoken to Davis since I read his refreshing comments this morning, and I don't plan to speak to him until next week. But we don't look too kindly at players that think of themselves before the team."
So there you have it we now have Roosy the relaxed one, the reserved one, the one who didn't even responed to the AFL CEO's comments regarding his game play last year in one comment, called Nick Davis - un-Sydney like and think of himself first before the team and even stated that Nick was lucky he was on the different side of the country.
Even Barry Hall got in on the act
Swans captain Barry Hall said Davis should follow the example of Mathews. "Nick was in a similar situation, and it is probably how a player goes about it tells a little bit about his character," Hall said. "Benny went back to the reserves, had a really solid couple of weeks, and he's back into the side."
Nick has dug his own grave here and now he can only do two things:
1. Admit to the media he was wrong to make the comments, go back to the ACTAFL for the next few weeks work his arse off and get back to peak form and fitness. Then once back in the senior prove to the coaching staff and the rest of the team that he is a worthwhile member of this club by producing more efforts like we have seen from him on nights like the Geelong Final or even the match against Freo a fortnight ago.
or
2. Keep believing he was hard done by and never get the respect of the coaching staff and players back. Stay in the ACTAFL for the rest of the year and then find himself being traded away to a club against his will.
Your decision Nick

Yep That's Goin' Solve The Problems
The Swans are playing Shit football, so Roosy finally makes up his mind to rid the senior side of the non performing shit player and banish them to the ACTAFL. We all think "Joy, maybe this will turn the season around". Works for one week against Fremantle when Ben Mathews and Ted Richards get the axe and drop down a level. From all reports from those watching last Sunday both played shocking matches, including Mathews who had 7 clangers and his 2 attempted shots on goal resulted in him kicking into the man on the mark and kicking the other out on the full. Somehow he end he not only ends up in listed best players list in the paper, but this weekend he along with Ted Richard will be running on too Subiaco to face West Coast.
the Swans will welcome back Ben Mathews and Ted Richards who were both dropped and spent two weeks in the seconds.
It just pains me that two underperforming hack just have to run around in circles for two weeks, do nothing and STILL get a senior re-call, yet a player like Tim Schmidt gets 63 possessions in a reserves match and is still WAITING for his first senior match. The same goes for Josh Willoughby, Earl Shaw and Heath Grundy.
Is it just me or is this club (and Paul Roos) scared to try new things like new players????

It's All Gone To Shit
3 matches.
In that span we have seen 1 lucky win and 2 losses (one close and one not so close), that should of been wins if we were able to ajust our gameplan, style and tactics to suit the weather, opposition, the opposition tactics and underperforming Premiership "stars".
3 matches is all it took for what look like a promising tilt at back to back flags to go up in smoke and for us to drop out of the Top 4 and talk of the premiership, to 6th and talk of the end of an era. 3 matches.
Sure we are at the same spot on the win/loss ratio as this time last year but the difference this year is we don't look like exploding into a run of form that can take us all the way to the Top 4 let alone a Premiership. We have Fremantle this week in what has become a MUST WIN match for the club and then we embark of a two week journey to find our real position in the top 8, when we come up against the two top teams in the land in Adelaide (who we haven't beaten under the coaching of Roos) and West Coast in Perth (where we haven't won under the coaching of Roos).
As you can see we really are facing a do or die 3 three weeks which could even see us battling to keep our spot in the eight if we aren't careful. That's why the past two losses to St Kilda and Collingwood at home when we are better then them on paper have hurt because they hit us at the WRONG time. I know why we lost these games and I know why if we met these sides again in September it would be a different story, but I'm not going to go into tactic in this rant because I want to rip into certain players who I feel aren't putting in 100% at the minute and need to lift if we are going to be ANY chance of saving our back to back dream's.
First of all Ryan O'Keefe really needs to pull his finger out of his arse and start to have the impact as the 3rd forward he was having in 2003, 2004 and 2005. So far this year he has been missing in that duty in EVERY SINGLE GOD DAMN MATCH and when he does get the ball is so bloody wasteful you start to wonder if, a) his mind is on the game 100% and b) if he is really trying out there.
Second of all Leo Barry has been a joke this season giving away nothing but needless free kick after free kick. After the first match against Essendon we thought it was down to Lloyd and his diving, but maybe just maybe, Leo has got a little too lazy and has allowed "That Mark" to go to his head and has taken the easy option and thus gives the free kicks his gives. He needs to either cut this stuff out, or Roosy must find a new Full Back and move Leo into a more attacking defensives role.
I don't know what's wrong with Nick Davis and I'm not going to try and guess, other than to say I feel he kept too far away from the play and therefore isn't allowed to impact on matches like he did against Geelong in last year's finals series. Now Roosy should stop with the idea of him being a "midfielder" for the time being and put him back in the forward 50 and allow him to kick his 2 to 3 goals a match and impact on the scoreboard, not the statsheet. Let him do what he does best - KICK GOALS.
With Magic, he either is boxed in by Hall and therefore doesn't have the room to move and thus moves outside his goalscoring range (remember he bearly can kick over 40m anymore) and when the room does open up he doesn't move back for one reason or another. Roosy needs to works out the forward line set up better to work around Hall and Magic because they are key players who will lead us all the way, but as things stand Hall is the centre piece and is being left to do all the work (and doing it well) but will burn himself out if we aren't too careful.
We have only used 24 players which is great injury wise but we need to blood some of our kids and put pressure of the squad and spots in the team because players become lazy if they think they are walk up starts each week if fit. Why isn't Moore or Schmidt getting a game rather than Mathews who has shown this season time and again he is past his best form for us, why isn't Vogels tried rather than Richards who has dropped in form in the last month and why hasn't Doyle pushed Chambers since coming back from injury??
Roosy has three times this year hinted at changes and not made ANY and this week he has promised more. Will he drop Mathews, Richards, and/or Chambers or will he go with droping the likes of McVeigh as per usual??? I for one hopes he goes for a big name just to send a rocket up certain players and to fill the young players with hope that they won't be the fall guys regards as long as they play well and earn their spot.
We have a fight on our hand and the past 3 matches have shown that we aren't the solid bet for back to back we all though we were. Now we are fight not only to make the Top 4 but to make the finals altogether.

Don't Ask Me How Last Night Went
This picture says it
Your diving scum Lloyd. 3 un-earnt goals while Hall suffers worse and gets nothing. Hope you enjoy braking the new umps in as much as they clearly do.
Cheat.
Good. Got that out of my system. BTW we lost by 27 points, match report to follow at some point when I'm thinking clearer.

Why Don't We Get No Respect?
Ah, the football media and most likely the football world as a whole, you just got to love them. If they aren't calling you lucky then they are just plain ignoring you. This pre season has seen some of the media's best work in regards to the Swans, NOT.
To be honest ever since Leo Barry took THAT mark deep in defence all the way back in the September, the whole football world has shown this football club no repect.
Que dragging out the following picture for full effect

Classic example of the shit the Swans have had to put up with this pre season, along with the many misquotings of the Swans preseason record under Roosy is this article which shows two side of the football world when the Swans are involved of late. Swans don't appear on Wallace's radar for high-flyers
Great to know the man us fans rightfully rejected as a coach of this coach to lead us to glory and has never done anything better than lead the Bulldogs to one of the AFL's greatest ever chokes in 1997 against the Crows. How this mans opinion counts of anything, espally his opinion of us after his appointment was knocked back and the man who took his place led us to the promised, is beyond me.
But I guess regardless of the crap flying around (and there is plenty of it) we are still premiers, still have the team capable of winning the flag and will yet again go under the radars of every football coach, media expect and fan.
Some people just never learn their lessions.

Gee, I wonder How the Media Figured This Out
Well after proving the media were dickheads only a few days ago, for making up a pre season record of 0-13 for the Swans under the coaching, it turns out the media either read this site and my rant or did the impossible and figured out their own mistake for once. Anyway good to see the afl.com.au match preview for the Swans vs Saints match use the correct record this time, instead of blindly following the rest of the media pack on using a false stat.
Here's the quote
This weekend coach Paul Roos will hope to improve on his 6-14 record in the pre-season when Sydney travels to Newcastle to battle old foes St Kilda.
The wonders of making the media look like fool. Seems something the Swans have a habit of doing.
On a simular note, it seems my fellow posters at RWO.com (Ruckman in particular) spotted a fair few mistakes in Ben Casanella's player profiles.
Some of Ben's handy work
Amongst Ben Casanella's Player Profiles, we have . . .
Luke Vogels ". . . played 11 games but dropped after the finals win over West Coast." LRT "The surprise of the grand final in which he thrashed Michael Gardiner." Darren Jolly "Interesting to see how he performs with Ball alongside."
Play spot the mistake's there. Still should we be surprised at this from the guy who tipped us to win less than 6 games in a bet with Jim Main and never followed though with his side of the bet.
Some things never change

Proof the Media are Dickheads
Well reading the two quote's below it really makes one wonder how most of the media get their jobs. Not only do they fail to even predict Premiership winners (in some case tipping them to miss out on the finals altogether), but they get easy facts wrong. Why you might ask??? Well I think in this case it makes a story sound better and heck bothering to check whether the fact is correct or not isn't even worth it because of that fact.
The quote's in question well here they are
The Swans remain winless during the 2006 pre-season and remarkably have now lost 13 pre-season matches under Paul Roos since he took over the coaching job in 2002.
and
The Swans have lost their fifth match this year 13.11 (89) to 7.7 (49) and have plummeted to a shocking 0-13 record in pre-season games since Paul Roos became head coach in 2002.
The first gem is from afl.com.au's Andrew Browne and the second is from the AAP's Daniel Pace which ended up being used in today's Sunday Herald Sun and no doubt News Limited's Sydney papers as well. You really have to question the media when they get simple facts like this wrong.
You might be asking yourself why I know this or why I'm bothering, well I'll you. I like pointing out mistakes of others and I think this warrants calling out. I didn't stand on the outer at Victoria Park in 2004 copping abuse from Collingwood ferals after we beat them for no reason and I'm sure that the 21 pre season games we have played under Roosy doesn't help the journo's case or believability.
So for the record I have gone to the trouble of checking out all the results of the pre season games the Swans have played under Roosy and here I can show them to you:
2003
Exhbition Match vs Essendon at North Sydney (WIN) 127-119
Wizard Cup Match vs Brisbane at Telstra Stadium (LOSS) 61-93
Wizard Regional vs Carlton at Coffs Harbour (LOSS) 79-39
Wizard Regional vs Melbourne at Canberra (WIN) 91-56
Wizard Regional vs Richmond at SCG (WIN) 103-62
2004
Exhibition Match vs Essendon at North Sydney (LOSS) 69-80
Wizard Cup Match vs Carlton at Telstra Stadium (LOSS) 48-150
Wizard Regional vs Collingwood at Victoria Park (WIN) 80-47
Wizard Regional vs Kangaroos at Optus Oval (LOSS) 71-94
Wizard Regional vs Essendon at Newcastle (WIN) 116-64
2005
Exhibition Match vs Essendon at North Sydney (WIN) 96-64
Wizard Cup Match vs Bulldogs at Telstra Dome (LOSS) 70-90
Wizard Regional vs Brisbane at Telstra Stadium (LOSS) 33-89
Wizard Regional vs Adelaide at AAMI Stadium (LOSS) 61-62
Wizard Regional vs Collingwood at Newcastle (LOSS) 103-105
2006
Exhibition Match vs Kangaroos at LA (LOSS) 38-86
Exhibition Match vs Essendon at North Sydney (LOSS) 71-89
NAB Cup Match vs Kangaroos at Canberra (LOSS) 37-68
NAB Regional vs Essendon at Optus Oval (LOSS) 53-85
NAB Regional vs Richmond at Cararra (LOSS) 49-89
NAB Regional vs St Kilda at Newcastle (????) ???-???
Pre-season record under Roosy = 6 Wins and 14 Loses
So there you are proof the media are dickheads and more reasons to ignore what the predict of us this coming season.

How Sweet Revenge Is........
Swans bash makes point to footy HQ
Tonight the Swans will hold their regular monthly board meeting in Melbourne, a first for the club since it moved North to Sydney 25 seasons ago. After the board meeting the Swans will host a bash to raise some funds to help launch the "Sydney Australian Football Foundation" which will go towards helping the Swans secure their long term future and the help the local game in Sydney in general, with already $1 million in the kitty before the official start of the Foundation.
While this might not seem like a big deal other than the launch of the foundation itself (and to be truthful I wouldn't use an entire post of it alone), the location of the event provides too much of an opportunity to prove that Revenge is always sweet and best served cold. You could say file it away under "How times hve changed".
THE 2006 AFL Premiership Cup has already enjoyed something of an unusual pilgrimage but the irony of tonight's push into the heart of Toorak has not been lost on anyone at the Sydney Swans. Nor has the fact that the club's wealthiest and most influential Melbourne-based supporters — along with coach Paul Roos and his three captains, Barry Hall, Leo Barry and Brett Kirk — will convene at the former home of famous Swans hater and disgraced Carlton president John Elliott in a bid to take on the powerful Victorian clubs at their own game.
Yep thats right, not only are the Swans hosting their monthly board meeting at Big John's house with the Premiership Cup as the centrepiece (something that warms the heart of this Carlton hating Swans fan), we are doing so to ensure the long-term future of the club at the former home of a man who tried to kill us off, but ended up losing everything including his home to a Swans fan, who has handed use of it over to the Swans when they see fit.
So while we are proving our massive finanical worth off the field, in membership, sponsorship and now this foundation, we are putting the messures in place to make sure our club has a long term future. Funny then this comes at the same time as the current Carlton board is stuggling to overcome the debts left behind by Big John and is forcing to them to consider going cap in hand to the AFL for funding.
Funny how life turns out doesn't it, hey John?

Proof That There Are Morons in This World
Punters eye Sydney....for the wooden spoon
veteran bookmaker Gerard Daffy says he has never before seen the likes of — a surge of money for a reigning premier to win … the wooden spoon. "It's unprecedented, unheard of, in any code," Daffy told us yesterday as he tried to come to terms with the sudden punting about-turn on 2005's top AFL team, Sydney, so dramatic that it has seen more money invested on Paul Roos' boys to finish last in 2006 than them making it back-to-back flags.
Oh now come on, how stupid can some people be to think that the Swans are going to win the wooden spoon. Yes, I know there are always people who place the odd "crazy unlikely to happen but wow I'm a millionare if I pull it off" bet, but to have so many that its classed as a betting surge odds going from from $81, initially down to $67 and now to the current price of $51.
To top that all off you have even the rebuilding clubs getting more money bet on them winning the flag than us:
"We have had more bets on Carlton and Hawthorn winning the flag than we've had on Sydney," said Daffy.
The mind just bloggles at the pure madness of some people, oops hang on a sec I think I've more....
Has Anyone Bought Grand Final Flights Yet???
Just wondering if anyone has noticed that direct flights from Perth to Melbourne on Qantas and Virgin have just about sold out? Only came to my attention because my parents were purchasing tickets last night.
....and you would of thought they would of learnt their lession last year about being too cocky about winning the flag well in advance. Pure proof of morons if ever I've seen it.

If You Thought Last Weeks Umpiring Was Bad....
..........this week just got a whole lot worse because this man

has been given tomorrow night's match. Has Andy D got it in for us that much for making him look like a fool after his stupid comments???
For the record the other umpires are:
Sydney vs. Geelong, SCG, 8.00pm
UNIFORM- YELLOW
FIELD:
#22- Stuart Wenn
#25- Shaun Ryan
#32- Darren Goldspink
EMERGENCY: #3- Stephen McBurney
The prick who cost us the match last week got the axe not surprisingly.

Excuses, more damn excuses
On The Age website, this article Hard work the key for blue-collar Swans proves to me that there is no God. Yet again Roos has dragged out the same sorry excuses he uses week in and week out.
"We're not quite as talented as we'd like to be and obviously our supporters would like us to be, but they work very, very hard," he said.
Well Paul, that begs the question as to why these same talentless players are pulling on the jumper each week. You know they are no good, yet you STILL play them.
Why not try out a Josh Willoughby or a Nick Malceski, or god forbid you play a first year player in Jarrad Moore. Lets see what we have in the well and what they can do, because I know I rather have these three players in the team at the moment rather than waste time with the likes of Buchanan, Schneider and Bevan who at the moment have no idea what they are doing on the field and should be in Canberra each week proving that they can play.
But still I shouldn't pray for those changes as that would mean they would join McVeigh in rotating on and off the bench and would never get use to AFL level, let alone develop into the much needed midfield help we need. The way this list is heading, we will be bottoming out very quickly and the time at the bottom will be longer than this club can allow. Things need to change if we are to ever win a premiership in my lifetime.
But I guess finishing 8th is good enough, right Paul?

I Can See It Now
This basically what my tombstone will read when I finally pass on, if things keep going the way things are going.

This club has no clue - same fucking players, same fucking result. Roosy how about having some balls and dropping a few of these over-rated hacks. You can start with the bloody captain.
If you already couldn't guess, we LOST. Match report sometime tomorrow.

Swans looking to future in Demons clash
When I read this article, I officially gave up on the 2005 season premiership hope's of the Swans. Sure we will end up around mid table and might even just make the final's. But what's the point of building for the future or trying to get back to the successful attack-minded gameplan that won us so many matches, when the coach considers the "future" to be players like Schneider and thinks Leo Barry is the better "Full Back" option than Andrew Schauble.
"This weekend is an opportunity for Swans fans to come and look at what our future looks like," said Roos.In their absence, Roos will look to Jarrad McVeigh and Adam Schneider to step up their midfield productivity to complement the tireless efforts of Brett Kirk and Jude Bolton.
Well, Roosy
I can't understand why you think what this team needs is Schneider back in the side, McVeigh sure he HAS to come in but Schneider should only play at the expense of Buchanan and be positioned in the Forward Pocket.
With Willo and Maxfield out of the midfield we need to bring in some of our young midfield talent and final expose them to senior footy. McVeigh, Willoughby and Malceski are clearly fighting out for the two available spots in my mind. But I guess Schneider is now the wildcard option. Oh joy
"In terms of size it does become very difficult and draining on Leo as a player."Even with Schauble and James in, we choose Leo to take the mismatch role because of his history against those key position players.
"He has been our best defender and one of the best defenders in AFL for three or four years."
So Paul, I ask you this question.
If your idea of defence at the moment is so draining on Leo, why keep it up?? It sure as hell didn't work against Adelaide on Sunday and it will look even worse on Saturday Night against the Demons who have two better Key Position Forward's than the Crows in Neitz and Miller. Clearly Sunday showed the football world how to beat the Swans and that's just bomb it in long to your tall forwards.
Sure Leo is a very good defender and the jobs he has done at Full Back with Schauble out of the side the past two seasons has been great, but I know I rather him teaming up with Tadhg Kennelly and Sean Dempster across Half Back like 2003.
More exciting to watch that's for sure
