Nicks Calls It A Day
Well that pretty much makes the injury list I posted earlier today useless then.
Matthew Nicks has today retired from football after a 175 game career with the Sydney Swans. The retirement was brought upon after struggling to overcome a knee stress fracture over the past few months since dropping out of the senior side. He retires short of the 200 game club but does retire with Swans Club Life Membership and a 11 year career which saw him play some pretty handy football off Half Back and from time to time in his later days up forward.
As sad as this news is, it was painfully clear that Matthew was never going to be able to regain his spot in the side this year, nor re-gain the fitness required to make an impact like he once did if he went on next year, which was doubtful anyway.
I'll remember him best for his goals in his first match against Collingwood in Round 22 1995 which help sink Collingwood's finals hopes, his effort to keep Phil Matera kickless in last years finals win over West Coast, his bag of 7 goals against St Kilda in 2001 and of course his relationship with Home and Away "star" Tammin Sursok.
