Maxfield Done for the Year

Well for the second time in the past week the club has decided to make a common sense decision and not attempt to rush back former captain Stuart Maxfield from his knee injury in the hope he could get a proper send off in the finals. After one and a half matches back in the reserves it was clear that Maxfield just wasn't up to the level required to be worthy of a spot in the senior team.

While the motive is honorable for a player who has given his all over 200 games for the club over the past 10 seasons, it was clear that Stewie was past his best and struggling to regain fitness.

The club line is:

Maxfield has been ruled out for the remainder of the season following discussions with coaching and medical staff which decided he needed immediate arthroscopic surgery on his troublesome left knee.

A decision on whether he plays on next season will be made at a later date as no doubt Stewie thinks he can play senior AFL football again and whats to see if he can get his knee right before making any final decision. If he decides to play on he'll be moved onto the veterans list in place of the retired Matthew Nicks and given time to prove his form and fitness. But thats all up to Stewie and I trust he'll make the right call regardless of what that call is.
